Yum! The lovely Alex serves up a sweet treat fairy tale. A hungry lion. A little girl. A box of doughnuts…? Gorgeous proof that a perfect picture book can look even more tempting than a sweet shop window. Worried about wolves? Don’t make Little Red laugh. She’s not even scared of hungry lions. After all, why would this furry chap want to gobble her up? She’s sure he’d rather have a doughnut. Right, Mr Lion? A sassy heroine, beautiful artwork, jungle animals, a funny twist on a tale you adore. Once again, the World Book Day artist gets us all eating from his hand.
My Thoughts
This gorgeous picture book by Alex T Smith is visually stunning.
Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion is a playful reinvention of the classic fairy tale, with a young African American girl as the central character and a very hungry lion.
Little Red is on her way to visit her sickly auntie. On the way she encounters all kinds of wild animals: sleeping crocodiles, tall giraffes, chattering monkeys… and you guessed it, a hungry lion.
As she heads to your auntie’s house little does she know that there’s danger lurking in the trees.
A very hungry lion with a naughty plan!
I loved this children’s picture book. It’s everything I look for when reading it to my godson!!!It’s the prefect diversity book to teach your children.
Alex has created a triumphant celebration of diversity and female heroism. I recommend this book to any child and parent
