Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it's hard to escape it. So when a group of men show up at her house uninvited, she assumes it's just the usual media-grubs. That is, until shots are fired.
Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. And when their captor implants a device in Liddi's vocal cords to monitor her speech, their lives are in her hands: One word and her brothers are dead.
Desperate to save her family from a desolate future, Liddi travels to another world, where she meets the one person who might have the skills to help her bring her eight brothers home-a handsome dignitary named Tiav. But without her voice, Liddi must use every bit of her strength and wit to convince Tiav that her mission is true. With the tenuous balance of the planets deeply intertwined with her brothers' survival, just how much is Liddi willing to sacrifice to bring them back?
Haunting and mesmerizing, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans strings the heart of the classic with a stunning, imaginative world as a star-crossed family fights for survival in this companion to Stitching Snow.
MY THOUGHTS
Why do I do this to myself? Really!? I was so engrossed by the whole concept of this plot! I should have known better. Sci-fi is not my strong Genre. But I give it a go because it sounded amazing and a retelling at that!? If you know me and follow my blog. You know that I love retellings and so I was intrigued and excited.
But I was disappointed!
Damn IT!
The Story
It was complicated and I found myself lost most of the time. There were so many different concepts thrown into this story that I was confused and disoriented lol.
And this is WHY, I stay away from Sci-fi or Dystopians. There were too many planets, names and descriptions to keep up with and I just lost interest. It just made it hard to connect to the characters and the story.
This! Is the exact reaction I had while reading this book, lol.
The characters
Liddi and Tiav were ok characters. There was a bit of insta-love in this story, but not enough to take over the story.
Because her love and loyalty were with her brothers. Which was probably the only good part for me in the book. Until it got to be annoying and a bit much at some points.
In all honesty, I didn't even remember her brothers names.
See, no good, no good. No more dystopian for me.
Exactly!!!! Nope-ity Nope. No.
Finally
I've learned a valuable lesson, don't read genres that you don't love. I mean, I love to venture out of my comfort zone. But I dislike reviewing a book because it wasn't up to my taste. But I'll be a bit more picky when it comes to Dystopina or sci-fi from now on. Because some of the science and technology description just goes right out the door and over my head, lol.
Pretty much.
But that's not to say this book was horrible. It does have a pretty cool concept and people that love Dystopian, Sci-fi will probably love this book.
And for this reason alone, I rate this book 3 stars.
