MY THOUGHTS
I have a confession to make. I’ve never read or watched Sherlock Holmes as a child or even as an adult. I know, I know! (Put your pitchforks down, guys) lol. I was always intrigued (Still am) by the movies and stories. But never got around to it. So when I read the blur for this novel. I was fascinated and knew that this was the opportunity to start in the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Jamie Watson.
This novel was basically a retelling of the mystery cases from Sherlock Holmes. But told from the grand grandchildren. Jamie Watson–writer and great-great-grandson of the John Watson and Charlotte Holmes, the famous Sherlock detective’s Holmes enigmatic, fiercely independent great-great-granddaughter.
As I read A Study in Charlotte, I will say that I was a bit lost in the beginning. It took me a while to get into. I had no idea what was going on. I don’t know if it was because I never watched or read anything from Sherlock Holmes. But as I continued reading, it did started to get better and began to pick up and become a bit clearer for me.
Charlotte Holmes character was ummm, how would I say this? Charlotte had a habit of being extremely critical with her point of view towards others and sometimes also harsh and cold. But I did understand why she was the way she was. I give Jamie Watson a lot of credit for putting up with her. But sometimes he also give me the feeling that he didn’t have any backbone either and was ok with everything she told him to do. They were still good characters. I’m think they had some personality traits from their grand grandparents from what I understand. But not quite sure.
The plot was engaging once I understood what was going on. The mystery did interested me a lot. It was great and I was very curious and interested in finding out what was going too happened next. I feel like the story did unfolded slowly with the focus on Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson. But none the less I was surprised by plot’s ending result and enjoyed this novel quite well.
I will be picking up the next book in the series. I did enjoy the story and authors writing.

This is one of my most anticipated releases for 2016, so I was really excited when I saw this review! I find this an interesting way of retelling a story – by using the characters’ descendants. I’m glad to hear it got better for you and that you enjoyed it in the end
