I just love this title “The Night we said Yes”, Everyone wishes to have one of these nights. The Fun and unforgettable summer nights. I was looking forward to this story but it didn’t leave an impact on me like I thought it would. I was expecting a more depth more anguish in the characters build up. However it’s not to say that I didn’t like it. The Night We Said Yes was a fast, easy read, and would recommend it to anyone that loves these qualities in a book.
My favorite part: “The Night We Said Yes” had a great friendship story and I loved the Friendship Meg and Ella have in this story. They were both protective and loving to each other. When in high school I was shy and my friend was the outgoing one, it brought me back to a time that I enjoyed. I love seeing relationships like this in YA. I love the positive message that it tells, teaches and hope that young girls learn and also cherish one another.
The not so good: To me the relationship between Ella and Matt was so so. I was expecting more of an explanation on why Matt had left. I felt letdown about the reason. The other problem was the book was in alternating chapters of “Past” and “present”. Which is ok, I like back and forth chapters but for this story. I got a little confusing. I wished it was a bit longer than a chapter. I would have been more invested in the story and would have connected more with the book.
This story was a likeable summer read. I look forward to reading more of Lauren Gibaldi’s books in the future. Her writing style is effortless and enjoyable and would recommend this book to anyone that loves friendships and summer reads.
